Hot Water Heater Leak in Single Unit Causes Multi-Unit Damage
This customer had their hot water heater break in their summer home. Not only did the water affected their home, but it also affected the neighboring unit. The neighboring unit had called this customer to inform them that water was coming from his unit into theirs; penetrating the wall and soaking the carpets. The neighbors had called SERVPRO of Cape May County out to preform water mitigation services. After our crew had been there and removed the affected materials and started the drying process; we then notice that the water was still coming from this unit.
This customer called SERVPRO after his neighbor told him their unit cannot be dried until he has the source stopped and started drying his unit also. Because the wet materials had sat there for a week or so, microbial growth started to grow also. Most of this unit was affected as was the neighbors. Once SERVPRO of Cape May County started drying this unit both of the units dried in just 3 short days.
When dealing with water damage; if the source is not stopped before our team starts the drying process the materials will become re-affected and take much longer to dry.
